Soil Conservation

The Greene County Soil Conservation District was established in 1953 as a resource management agency, coordinating and implementing natural resource and environmental programs for Greene County in cooperation with federal, state and local agencies.

The mission of the Greene County Soil Conservation District is to provide technical assistance, leadership and to administer programs designed to help conserve, improve and sustain our natural resources.

The District is governed by a Board of Supervisors, two of whom are appointed to office by the Tennessee State Soil Conservation Committee and three of whom are elected by local land owners. An Office Administrator and the field work of a Soil Conservationist, both Greene County employees, guide the District. Additional technical assistance is provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, which is an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture.

The Greene County Soil Conservation District is very familiar with the natural resource needs of the community. This knowledge enables the District to establish local conservation priorities and coordinate the delivery of federal, state and local conservation programs.

Through the District, technical and financial conservation assistance is available to land users in rural and urban areas, helping them to voluntarily address concerns relating to erosion and sediment control, water quality, flood control, forestry, and wildlife habitat.

Providing the information and assistance necessary for today's land users to make wise decisions, ensures a productive today and a healthy environment for our future.
